5 Pet Hacks Every Fur Parent Should Know

Happy Pet Appreciation Week! In what ways do you show your fur baby how much you appreciate them? Here are 5 great ways to not only show your pet just how much you appreciate them but to assist them living a healthy and happy life.

  1. Know What Human Foods Your Pet Can and Cannot Have
  • Foods Dogs Can Eat – plain popcorn, apples, bananas, watermelon, pears, sweet potatoes, camomile tea, blueberries, broccoli, cucumber, raspberries, plain yogurt, turmeric,  pumpkin, pickles, celery, carrots, and good ‘ol peanut butter.
  • Foods Dogs Should Never Have – ice cream, cooked bones, bacon, bread, corn, milk, pepperoni, mints, tofu, pomegranate, beef jerky, nutmeg, cinnamon, avocado, nuts (almonds, peanuts, macadamia, walnuts), grapefruit, grapes, chocolate, caffeine,  onions, garlic, chives, fruit pits, and artificial sweeteners.
  • Food Cats Can Eat – grains, watermelon, carrots, asparagus, green bean, winter squash, chopped greens, cantaloupe, honeydew, bananas, cheese, cooked eggs, and cooked meat.
  • Food Cats Should Never Have – high mercury fish (tuna, salmon, swordfish), raw eggs, raw meat, chocolate, chives, caffeine, yeast dough, seeds, candy, garlic, cooked bones, fat trimmings, grapes, gum, raisins, onions, nuts, milk, coconut milk, liver, and xylitol.

  1. Have An Evacuation Plan In Place For Your Pet
  • Have necessary items ready in advance, like an emergency diaper bag, but for your fur baby.
  • Have all of your pet’s necessary documents.

  1. Use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has many benefits for your fur baby. Here are just a few:

  • Prevents hairballs
  • Conditions fur
  • Soothes hot spots on the skin
  • Protects paws
  • Heals dry nose
  • Gets rid of bad breath
  • Boosts energy

  1. Know How To Get Rid of Fleas

Fleas are just the worst. Getting rid of fleas is just as bad. Here are some DIY remedies to get rid of those pesky fleas.

  • Use salt
  • Create a citrus spray
  • Use dishwashing detergent
  • Create your own flea shampoo with lavender and soapwort
  • Plant Pennyroyal

  1. Remove Pet Hair

This last hack is more so for you. Removing pet fur is a job in itself. An easy way to remove fur from upholstery is to put on a dampened rubber glove and get to rubbing that fur right off. To remove fur from carpets, use a squeegee from the dollar store and it will pull that fur right up.
