How To Boost Your Confidence

As women, we often allow our fears to get in the way of all that is intended for us. Fear of failure, fear of success and what that means, fear of coming off too strong, fear of rejection.

Well, it’s time to kick those fears to the curb and claim what is rightfully ours, all that we deserve! How? By boosting your confidence to take all that life has in store for you.

Here are five ways to boost your confidence to take back your life!

1. DAILY AFFIRMATIONS

Reciting daily affirmations is a great way to increase your confidence. They motivate you to act and change your negative thoughts to positives. Daily affirmations are positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts. According to psychotherapist Ronald Alexander of the Open Mind Training Institute, writing your affirmations down in a journal and practicing them in the mirror is a good method for making them more powerful and effective (Alexander, 2011).

2. GRATITUDE LISTS

Each day list what you are grateful for. You’ll be surprised how many things in your life you may overlook each day that you’ll realize just how beneficial they are in your life. Noticing what we already have can make us feel more positive about our lives. Gratitude can help you feel better about your circumstances, which can lead to feeling better about yourself. Get as creative as you’d like with your gratitude list. Jot your lists in a gratitude journal, or keep it electronic in an app.

3. STOP CRITICIZING YOURSELF & COMPLAINING

Your tongue is your most powerful weapon and that goes for what you say about yourself as well. If you are always criticizing yourself or complaining about things, you are going to be stuck in a negative rut.  Your life will seem less overwhelming, you’ll feel less aggressive and angry, and simply feel better overall when you eliminate these bad habits. Instead of criticizing yourself, look to see ways to edit those things you don’t care for about yourself and your life. Instead of complaining, have a plan in mind ready to go to change what it is you would have complained about, and put it into action. Another alternative is to embrace yourself and all of your differences. You were created to be uniquely you, and that is truly amazing.

4. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Nothing makes me feel good like doing something for my physical self, and that includes my outer appearance. I love finding new products to help my skin and hair look their best, and it certainly boosts my confidence. There’s no shame in grooming yourself. After all, your body is a temple, and even temples need to be maintained and remodeled every so often. Treat your outer self with the same care and love you should with your inner health. Dressing nicely counts too. Even when you shop budget-friendly, putting on that favorite outfit always makes you feel so much better about yourself.  Your appearance does, after all, affect the way you regard yourself.

5. BE ACTIVE & EAT HEALTHY

The other side of taking care of yourself is treating your body with love. You are what you eat, and what you eat and do, has a major impact on your feelings towards yourself. Eating healthy and being active are great ways to boost your mood and overall confidence. These actions will help you feel better physically, which will help you feel better mentally. Taking the right steps to improve your diet and physical activity can decrease depression and eliminate the risk associated with life-threatening illnesses. Being active, your body releases chemicals called serotonin that can improve your mood and make you feel more relaxed.
