Girls Guide to Getting Your Wardrobe Organized

Having an organized life makes life so much simpler. Organization reduces anxiety and stress which ultimately leads to a healthier and happier life. The same goes for organizing your fashion. The trick is having a place for everything and putting everything in its place. I’ve created a list of easy ways to become more fashionably organized. From de-cluttering your closet to making a clothing budget, scroll down to see how to keep yourself together and fashionably organized for the rest of 2018 and beyond.

1. Get And Use A Planner

Planners are not just for to-do lists. You should use a planner to organize your wardrobe. Each day jot down what you wear. This will help with fashion repeats and to keep track of what you are/are not wearing (see Cleaning Out Your Closet… below).

To help with your smooth and easy morning routine, plan out your outfits for the week during the weekend. Check the weather for that week and write out your outfits in your planner along with the accessories you plan to wear with it.  If space is available, hang up your outfits in order of the day you will wear them with accessories attached. This step will also help make sure that what you plan to wear is clean and ready to be worn.

 2. Have a Wardrobe Budget and Stick to It

No matter how hard you try to convince yourself you will not spend money on clothes, there will always be something that comes up causing you to go out and shop for a new top, shoes, or entire outfit. Set aside a budget specifically for clothing so when the time comes up, you can shop smart.

3. Only Buy What You Will Wear

You have your budget in place and you’re all set to shop, the trick is to only buy pieces you know you will actually wear.  Time and time again you will see that super cute dress in a store or online and you feel you just gotta have it. Or you find those cute colored skinnies and you absolutely love that unique color. Ask yourself,  do you have a place to wear that item, will this item just sit in my closet with the tags on it because you don’t have a complete outfit for it?

Make it a rule to only buy pieces that have a purpose. If you don’t have shoes to wear with that dress and buying new shoes are not in your budget, don’t buy it. If you don’t have a top to go with those pants, you can’t find one in your budget, or in general, to wear with them, don’t buy those pants.

4. Cleanout Your Closet and Do a Wardrobe Inventory

At the beginning or end of each season, go through your clothes and decide what you need to keep, trash, donate, return or sell. The rule is, if you haven’t worn it for 6 months it’s time for it to go. Well, I’ve changed that rule since it only applies to people who live in a single or duo season region. If you live where you experience three to four seasons, my rule is, if you haven’t worn it in two of that season or longer, get rid of it. So if you haven’t worn something in two Winters and it’s a Winter piece, you will probably never wear it, check it to see if you can donate it or sell it. If not, it needs to go in the trash.  If it’s a new item and you hadn’t worn it that entire season after purchase, check to see if you fall within the return timeframe to return it, if not find a place or app to sell it or donate it.

After you have gone through your clothes, do an inventory.  Write done in your planner what items you have with a brief description of each item.  Make a list of items you had to trash that you will need to re-purchase and see how to fit it into your budget. List items that don’t have a mate to complete an outfit and give yourself a timeframe to purchase that mate or donate that item. The same goes for items that need to be repaired, make a list of the item, its needed repair, and the deadline to have it repaired before tossing it.

5. Check Your B&Ps

Finally the items we always overlook when organizing our wardrobe, our bras and panties.  This can include your socks and stockings as well (especially going into Fall & Winter). If your underwear is stretched-out, snagged, ill-fitting, have holes or runs, throw them in the trash and add them to your shopping list.  These items are budget busters, so checking these more often will help save your budget.

Following these 5 easy steps will surely keep your wardrobe fashionably organized as well as keep you on budget.
