Girl’s Guide to How to Be Happier In Life

Girl’s Guide to How to Be Happier In Life

More often than not, we find ourselves settling for less than what we truly want. Thus, finding ourselves unhappy in those situations and trying to determine what to do to be happier.

The first time I heard that happiness is a choice, I completely disagreed and was upset by the statement. Well, here I am completely agreeing with it now. Happiness is a choice. You make the choice to stay unhappy or fix it. You make the choice to be in a situation you know will make you unhappy and stay in it. Just like you make the choice to do whatever you can to be happy.

Now, what if I told you taking the steps to be happy is easier than you think? In this girl’s guide to how to be happier in life, you will see just how easy it is to turn that frown upside down and start enjoying life.

Think Positively

We are all familiar with the term “you are what you eat.” Well, I believe you are what you think. If you think negatively you will be, guess what, negative. So, if you think positively, you will be positive. Place positive mantras around your house to read and tell yourself positive affirmations (I am happy, today is a great day, I love my life, etc.) throughout the day. This will surely uplift your spirit and change your mindset to that of a positive one.

Talk About Your Feelings

Some people believe the best thing to do is to leave the past behind you. That is all great and dandy, but if the past is still haunting your thoughts, what good is leaving it in the past really doing? Have you ever noticed how much better you feel just sharing your feelings with someone else or simply writing them down? Venting is medicine for your soul and will lead you to a life of happiness. The key is to vent once and be done. Venting can open your mind to see how insignificant the issue truly is and therefore allow you to move on quickly. If venting to someone who will not amp you up negatively, but will give you the guidance you need to get to a positive place, venting may take on the role of therapy.  Don’t have that person to vent to, write it down. Some like to use a journal to write out their feelings. I think this is great when those feelings are positive and you can go back to read about it when you are feeling down. To really be done with negative feelings, I think writing it down and then throwing it away is symbolic of getting those negative thoughts out of your body and well, destroying them.

Girl’s Guide to How to Be Happier In LifeMake Better Choices

As I mentioned earlier, happiness and unhappiness for that matter are choices. If you know something will lead you down a road of despair, choose not to do it. Always think about what will happen if I make this decision. If you get more negative outcomes than positive, your decision should be easy to make. Stray away from the things that will cause you or anyone else hurt and sadness. This does not mean don’t take risks. Simply have plans set to turn the course positive should your decisions backfire on you.

Get Rid of Negative People

It may seem easier said than done to distance yourself from people who make you unhappy, but remember happiness and unhappiness are choices. So is making excuses. There aren’t enough excuses in the world to excuse yourself from creating a life of happiness. With modern technology, ridding yourself of negative people is just too easy. Once you’ve told that person you feel it’s best to go your separate ways, block them out of your life. When I block someone, it’s more for me than it is for them. I am making sure I don’t slip up and give that person another chance to bring hurt or harm to my life. So to not be tempted to let that person back into your life, block their means of contacting you. Think of all of the people in your life who are actually positively motivating, and figure out how to spend more time with them.

Re-evaluate Your Life

This is probably the most important thing to do, which is why I saved it for last. Whenever you are feeling sad or unhappy, re-evaluate your life and figure out why. What choices have led you to this place? How can you fix it? What steps must you take to get to the life you want and deserve? What actions should you take to guarantee you won’t make the same choices again? Once you have it figured out, do it!
