One Month to LIVE: 30 Days to a Regret-Free Life part 1

It’s my One Month Anniversary as a Blogger. Yayyy! This is a major milestone for me. I’m super excited because I really enjoy writing my blogs. It’s also one month until my birthday. So in the spirit of “one month” and the celebration of my first milestone as a blogger,  I decided to revisit a book I read about  6 years ago that was truly inspiring; “One Month to Live; Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life” by Kerry & Chris Shook.

This book was part of a Church wide challenge for the church I was attending at the time, but I made it a personal challenge.  I ask that you take on this 30 Day Challenge with me.  If you would rather wait until the first of the month or start on a Sunday, that’s ok. Just make sure, whenever you start, you’re committed to it. You’re worth the challenge.

So in the book, each week has its own principle with challenges for each day. Now think, what if you knew you only had 30 days to live, would you live a life without regrets or would your last 30 days be filled with disappointments. In this challenge, the goal is to live not just these next 30 days without regrets, but to live the rest of your years to the fullest. Think of our mortality as a reminder to be all we were made by God to be, instead of as something sad and daunting.

With the hope of keeping this blog as short as possible, I will try to get straight to the point for each day’s challenge, and only post one week at a time.

What you will need:

  • A journal
  • An open heart
  • And commitment

 

Introduction

Day 1: Living the Dash – As quickly as possible, without thinking too hard or long, make a list of five things you’d change about your life if you knew you only had a month to live. Choose at least one to begin changing today, right now. Next, describe how you would like your life to be different at the end of this challenge. Tell at least one person that you’re doing this challenge and have them mark the 30th day on a calendar to ask you then how your life has changed.

Week 1: Live Passionately

Day 2: Roller Coaster – If you were certain your life as you know it would end in a few weeks, what would be your biggest regret? Why? In what area of your life are you suffering from the “someday syndrome” where you keep putting it off? Make a decision today never again to use the phrase “someday, when…” Realize today is your someday! Instead of a roller coaster, what symbol or metaphor would you choose to describe what your life would look like if you were fully engaged? Try to come up with something as unique as you are. Find a picture of that symbol, place it in a spot where you will see it everyday, and use it as a reminder to live with no regrets.

Day 3: Time Squared –  Spend your time deliberately and carefully.  How you spend your time can determine the difference between a sense of contentment knowing you’re doing exactly what you were made for, and a sense of regret. Is is meaningful? Satisfying? Keep a time journal and jot down how you spend each day this week. Try to rate your productivity along with your contentment. How would you rate the cost-effectiveness of how you invested your time.

Day 4: Power Surge – To live the life we were made for we are dependent on power. We need the power to change. Don’t depend on willpower to make that necessary change, realize how dependent we are on God’s power. “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” Matthew 11: 28-29

What are the current barriers to spiritual health in your life? What keeps you connected to God as your primary source of spiritual life? Write a letter of prayer to God, being as honest as you can about your present disappointments and frustrations. Consider how these problems or issues might be preparing you for a more fruitful season.

Day 5: Oxygen Mask –  How would you rate your health in each of these four areas—spiritual, physical, emotional, relational—from one (terrible) to ten (fantastic)? What’s the greatest challenge to improving your health in these areas? What can you do to work through this challenge? Spend time journaling about a specific goal for each of these four areas that you can pursue during the rest of this 30 days. Make sure the goals are practical and measurable.

Day 6: Monkey Bars –  Make  lists of items, resources, gifts, and opportunities you are presently entrusted with stewarding. Beside each one describe how it came to you (ie. you were born with it, someone gave it to you, you worked for it), and then note how much control you had over how it came to you. Finally, jot down how you think God would like you to invest each item on your list and how you can pursue this investment.

Now think about when you have been disappointed by God. How did He not come through for you the way you wanted Him to? How did this affect your relationship with Him? How can you exercise trust in Him as your loving Father even when you feel disappointed? Spend some time in prayer today relating your disappointment and asking God to help you trust Him more fully.

Day 7: Dreamsicle – Pull out your “dream box.” What’s in there? What are your frozen dreams? In other words, what would you attempt for God if you knew you couldn’t fail? Write out a description of one dream you have that you believe is from God. How has it “floated to the top” in your life? How does it require faith on your part for it to be realized? How does it serve others? Spend time in prayer asking God to reveal one thing you can do today to further your pursuit of His dream for your life.

Day 8: Kick Start – How can you live your life in full throttle? Make alist of all the things you can think of that prevent you from fully trusting God with your life: past disappointments and hurts, losses, doubts, and so on. After you finish, ask yourself what it would take for you to trust that somehow God can use each of them to fulfill His purpose in who He made you to be. Spend a minute in prayer for each item, and ask for help in releasing it.  What’s your greatest fear about trusting God completely with your life? What’s the basis for this fear? Journal about how you would face this fear if you only had one month to live. Call someone today and make a plan to get together to share where you are on your faith track.

P.S. Remember life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breaths away.

    بکار میروند ، ضدافسردگی ها که اثربخشی خوبی
    برای پیشگیری از میگرن دارند، تغییرات
    رژیم غذایی و روش زندگی و اجتناب از مصرف محصولاتی که میگرن را
    تشدید می‌کنند . برای درمان میگرن روش های روش‌های جایگزینی نیز وجود دارند که شامل
    درمان با لیزر، فیزیوتراپی سر، استفاده

    I was wondering if you ever considered changing the page layout of your site?
    Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.

    But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with
    it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two pictures.
    Maybe you could space it out better?

    Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to
    her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
    pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely
    off topic but I had to tell someone!
