How To Incorporate Giving Thanks In Your Devotion

It’s important as believers to know that take it to God in prayer doesn’t only include your wants and needs. We must also remember that it’s more important for us to include praise and thanks when we go to God as well.

Just think about how you feel when you go out of your way to do something for someone or do something a person asked you to do, and they don’t say thank you to you.

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. Psalm 136:1

So how can you incorporate giving thanks within your daily devotion?

Read A Scripture Of Praise Each Day.

Each day I read a different scripture of praise within my devotional time.

Sunday – Psalm 113
Monday – Psalm 146
Tuesday – Psalm 147
Wednesday – Psalm 148
Thursday – Psalm 149
Friday – Psalm 150
Saturday – Psalm 112

Devote At Least One Day A Week To Giving Thanks

When I first began purposefully including thanks and praise to my devotion time, I devoted one day a week to only giving God thanks. That meant on that day, no matter what was going on in my life, I could not ask God of anything. I could only give Him thanks.

I now have added on another day where I give thanks on Sunday and Thursday. So on those days, my prayers consist of me giving God glory for all he has done.

If I’m in need of something, instead of asking, I thank God for already taking care of that situation.

Throughout those two days, I make sure every time I speak with God, it is me saying thanks to Him. “Thank You for taking me to work this morning.” “Thank You for my health.”

By doing this, I’ve found myself thanking God more often in my prayers when in the past, I would have been asking instead.

With these two simple steps, you are able to include giving thanks within your devotion time with God. We should give Him thanks daily, and this is a way to make sure you are purposefully giving God glory for His wonderful works.
