How To Schedule Your Blog Posts Like a Pro

In my almost two years of blogging, I have realized that having a set posting schedule is definitely the way to go.

When I started blogging, I had a summer schedule for posting and it made life so much easier.  I noticed that my page visits were at their highest during that time and I had a groove going with my blog topics.

It was a goal of mine for 2018 to get back on track with a posting schedule and I am so happy I decided to. My numbers are increasing, and it has been so much easier knowing what I am going to post and when.

How to Schedule Blog Post?

  1.   Plan it Out

Some bloggers may disagree, but I think having a set day or days to post will definitely benefit you and your readers. It sets the tone that your readers can rely on you and that helps build trust.  For example, I not only have set days to post on my blog, I also set a theme for each of those days. This way, my readers will know what to expect before they even begin to read. This is so helpful for a blogger like me, who is more of a lifestyle blogger than a specific niche. However, even niched bloggers can adapt to this type of schedule.

My Posting Schedule

Tuesday – Tips and Tricks Tuesday; I post how-tos, life hacks, or helpful suggestions

Thursday – Thankful Thursday; I post faith-based  how-tos, with emphasis on scriptures, prayer, and Christian life

Saturday – Sister to Sister Saturday; my post are geared to my female readers, whether fashion, beauty, or my girl’s guide to… series.

Example schedule for Fashion Bloggers

Monday – Make Me Over Monday; fashion advice; how to wear…, fashion emergency fixes

Wednesday – What to Wear Wednesday; OOTDs, what to wear to (specific events), what to wear with (trending item), how to style…

Friday – Fashion Forward Friday; hot new trends, red carpet loves, fashion reviews, fashion show favorites

Having a specific schedule like this works for me. It allows me to always know what topic to write about and stay organized. It also helps me be able to plan a month ahead. It works well when planning a series and making sure my posts flow together.

All of this info goes into my planner, in pencil, so I can adjust as needed.  Once a post is published, I’ll write it in ink to make it permanent. I will go through each day, and plan out when I will do what, as far as researching, writing, taking pictures, and publishing (edit, create a cover image, edit internal images, schedule to post). All of which is in pencil in my planner, so I know I can be flexible.

  1.   Picking Topics

Trying to pick topics and planning ahead just was not working for me my first year of blogging. It was my intention, but I always ended up going with my feelings and writing whatever was in my heart (usually the day before publishing). Well, that only worked for so long. Eventually, I got writer’s block and went to only posting once a week.  Lesson learned.

Pinterest is my BFF. There are literally hundreds of blog topics on Pinterest to choose from. And once you set up a scheduling theme, coming up with topics is super easy. I first brainstormed topics that I wanted to write about, topics that fit my daily posting theme, and topics I wanted to visit again. I wrote them down in my planner’s note section and put the letter of the day I would post it next to the topic. Then I went to Pinterest and searched lifestyle and Christian blog topics to get inspiration for the rest. My goal was to get enough topics to last the 52 weeks of this year, and I surpassed that goal.  Once I listed all of the topics I found on Pinterest, I went through and labeled them with the letter of the day they would be posted. I was instantly able to see potential series and spin-off topics to write about. My creativity was bursting with excitement.

Hint- Use Google’s predictive search feature to understand what popular topics your potential readers might search for. Pay attention to the suggested phrases that others search for as they are highly popular.
