Traits of a Powerful Woman

Biblical Women Exuding Girl Power

h

As we close out Women’s History Month, I wanted to end with a bang. So, on this Faithful Thursday, I am sharing my favorite women of The Bible who displayed Powerful Strength.

h

EVE

Notorious as she is, Eve showed strength in navigating what it means to be woman. Let us all remember that Eve was created because Adam needed a helpmate. In other words, the first woman to take care of all the things. Although she allowed Satan to tempt her to make the worst decision of her life, Eve showed strength in figuring out what a wife should be, a mother, and a caregiver.

h

DEBORAH

Talking about being the first. Deborah is the first and only female judge mentioned in the Bible. We’re talking about Biblical times when this was unheard of, and in part of the world where women still don’t have freedom today. As a judge Deborah lead with compassion and was sought after for her guidance.

h

PRISCILLA

Not a name often heard, Priscilla is known for powerful ministry and generosity to those in need. Along with her husband Aquila, Priscilla is referred to as the woman who was foremost in service. Aquila and Priscilla were always ready to exemplify Christ in the common round of life.

h

ESTHER

Queen Esther showed strength in her bravery as she saved her people. Esther approached the King, unsummoned.  Knowing that by doing so, she could be killed. The king not only does not kill her, but promises to grant her request and saves the jews. Esther did not allow who she was to stop her, she instead used who she was as the force she needed to make a change, using her title for a cause.

h

SARAH

Sarah’s strength was first seen in an unusual way. After being told by her husband that they would have a son at their old ages, Sarah laughed at the thought. Once she became pregnant at the age of 90, provided strength for all of us in how God keeps his promises even when they don’t make sense to us. Also, can we talk about how she gave birth during Biblical times at the age of ninety. We all are aware of how much strength is needed to birth a child, and she did it naturally.

h

DAUGHTERS OF ZELOPHEHAD

Zelophehad was blessed to be the father to five daughters and no sons. During this time, according to God’s decree, the promised land is to be apportioned according to the “number of names” of members of the second generation counted in the census recorded in Numbers 26. Only the names of men were counted in the census, and Zelophehad’s daughters would be left without an inheritance. Well, these strong women were not going to take that without a fight. Zelophehad’s daughters, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah went forward to appeal this regulation and presented their case in front of the sacred tent of meeting in the presence of leaders including Moses. Moses consults God, and God announces the decision to Moses: the proposal of the daughters of Zelophehad is to be implemented and the regulation for order of inheritance: when there are no sons, daughters shall have first inheritance rights, followed by other male relatives in a set sequence was generalized. Talk about girl power.

h

MARY OF NAZARETH

As the Mother of Jesus, Mary shows strength from the beginning of her story to the end. The strength she showed when the angel Gabriel presented her with the news of her, a virgin, becoming with child with the Child of God. The strength it took for her to not only tell her family that she was pregnant but to also tell Joseph, allowing her faith to protect and guide her. Mary continued to show her powers as she raised Jesus to be humble and respectful, knowing He was the Son of God. And of course the strength she exudes knowing the fate of her son and watching Him be crucified.
