How To Make Your Home More Eco Friendly

How To Make Your Home More Eco Friendly

It’s almost Earth Day, and as I continue to figure out ways to live more eco-friendly,  I thought I would share some of the ways you can easily make your home more eco-friendly as well.

LED LIGHTS

Switching over to LED lightbulbs is a great way to conserve energy. LED lightbulbs also last for years, so you’ll save money as well.

h

SWITCH IT OFF

When not using it, power it off and/or unplug it. Some of the small electronics you use pull electricity even when turned off, so make sure you unplug them as often as possible.

h

ENERGY EFFICIENT APPLIANCES

Most appliances now all come as energy-efficient, so this one is super easy to do.

h

CLEAN CLEAN

Use eco-friendly clean products to clean with. Chemicals found in traditional cleaning products are not only harsh to you but are also harsh to the environment. This includes products you use for your body as well.

CUT THE PLASTICS

If we eliminated all plastic use from our lives, sadly, some of us wouldn’t have a house to live in or a car to drive. Plastic use can still be cut in so many ways. Use a reusable bag whenever you go shopping instead of getting plastic shopping bags. You a reusable water container for your drinking water instead of plastic water bottles. Buy more items in glass form rather than plastic. Try not to purchase things that are single-use plastic. Substitute your plastic goods with wood or glass as often as possible.

h

RECYCLE

You would be surprised how many people still do not recycle. Recycle your aluminum, plastics, glass, and paper waste. If you live in a county that does not participate in recycling, find where you may take your recycled materials to dispose of them correctly in your state. Recycle your plastic shopping bags and food wraps (if recyclable) as well. Most of these items will have a label to let you know they are recyclable plastics.

EAT LESS MEAT

Meat and dairy are responsible for the majority of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As the majority of emissions are a result of the production and preparation of meat and dairy, consuming less meat would be a positive contribution to reducing GHG emissions.
