5 Ways to Protect Your Connection With God

5 Ways to Protect Your Connection With God

Let me start off by saying, your connection with God is never faltered. Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have a spiritual bond that can not be broken or taken away.

H

With that said, our life decisions and circumstances can make that connection seem distant or even disconnected. That feeling is completely one-sided, ours.

H

When we are going through challenging times or have chosen not to follow God’s will, we often feel like God is not present, our connection is lost. God has not gone anywhere, we have. We have stepped off of his path for us and now our GPS signal is weak.

H

Here are five ways to protect your connection with God, no matter what you are going through.

#1 Pursue Him

If you feel as though your connection with God is at risk, seek Him, pursue Him. Go to God in prayer. Pray over your life, pray over your mind, pray over your actions. Tell God about your sorrows, ask for forgiveness for your pride, vent to Him the way you would a friend, or an earthly parent.

Reading God’s word is another way to pursue God. Look up scriptures to read that are relevant to your current needs and meditate on His word. Read through the book of Proverbs to receive the life lessons God has for us.

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

#2 Change Your Ways

Step back and take a good look at your life and life choices. Are you living your life in a way that is pleasing to God? Pleasing to yourself? Your ways should be His ways. Living a worldly life is a great way to feel disconnected from God. Align your ways with God’s will for your life and you will feel such a strong connection, you’ll find yourself living in peace.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

#3 Fast and Pray

Fasting is a great way to protect your connection with God, but don’t forget to pray while fasting. Release all of the things that are holding you back. This also includes those unhealthy relationships. Rid yourself of your sins and pray for guidance and forgiveness. At times of weakness, go to God. At times of pride, go to God. Fasting and prayer has to be 50/50 to fully receive the spiritual outcome you desire.

But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:17-18

#4 Surrender

To surrender means to cease resistance and submit to God’s authority. Stop trying to be in control and feel the need to always be right. The whole thing about faith is believing without it having to make sense. When God’s plan doesn’t seem right, check yourself, and surrender to God. When God’s plan seems too difficult, surrender to Him and let Him do His job as our Lord. God will give you all of the tools you need when you surrender to Him. Look at who He used in the Bible. Those men and women would not qualify for the jobs in our eyes, but God gave them exactly what they needed to overcome any obstacle because they surrendered to Him.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

#5 Accept His Will For Your Life

Finally, accept God’s will for your life. God knows what’s best for us. He created us and wrote our stories. If you want your GPS signal to remain strong, you need to make sure you are on the path God has planned for you where you will have the strongest signal. If God put speakers on a path to tell you which way to go, and you decide to take a turn and go your own way, you won’t be able to hear God’s directions because your new path was not equipped with God’s speakers. Thankfully we have a God that will still be there with us even when we decide to take the wrong turn. But, we will less likely hear what it is He’s telling us because we have gone too far off course. Think about all of the extra work you have to do now to get to where you need to be. Had you just stayed on the path God laid out for you, you would have received all of the assistance you needed to make your journey peaceful and stressfree.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
