Fun Ways To Stay Healthy As A Family

In honor of National Family Health and Fitness Day, I am sharing some fun ways to stay healthy as a family.

Living healthy is a habit. To ensure that your family is living a healthy lifestyle, you must incorporate healthy habits into your everyday lives. The best way to do that is to make those habits fun and enjoyable for the entire family. This is true no matter the size of your family or the age range.

Here is a list of fun activities you can do as a family to create healthy habits.

  • Take a hike on a nature trail. Make this a monthly activity where you do this once a month. Make it even more fun by taking pictures at certain points and watch how nature and your family members change throughout the year.

  • Take sports lessons as a family. Pick a sport and hire an instructor to train the entire family or take classes as a group. This could be rollerblading, tennis, dance, volleyball, karate, you name. Get other families/friends involved and make it competitive with an end of season championship battle.

  • Cook together. Instead of eating out, buy healthy ingredients and cook healthy meals as a family. This is a great activity to teach younger kids healthy eating habits and a great bonding experience for all families.

  • Do a marathon or a run challenge together.  With so many opportunities and variations of marathons and runs today, there is sure to be one that your entire family will want to participate in. The Color Run is one for all ages to love. Just be prepared to be covered with a rainbow of colors from head to toe. If that’s not your jam, run a marathon with a cause that is close to home for your family. Find local sponsors to help raise the money to support your cause and fees for the marathon.

  • Workout with video games. Video game workouts are a great way to get the entire family involved. With fun games like Just Dance, Wii Fit, EA Sports Active or Your Shape, there are plenty of fun games to choose from. The best part about this is the activity won’t seem like a usual gym workout, especially when you have the entire family involved.
