Master Bedroom Refresh

It’s been about a month since I’ve done my bedroom refresh that turned into a full-out makeover. The verdict is in, I LOVE IT!

The sad story about my original bedroom all started with me picking a paint color from a comforter that I didn’t really like. I don’t know what I was thinking, other than, it was my first house and I had too many decisions to make at one time. Well, that bad decision led me to never fully enjoying my bedroom. I thought the greige color made the room look like a cave, and I just felt stuck on what to do.

I’ve always wanted my bedroom to be a representation of my personality and just didn’t know where to start. Once I realized my creative slump was all because of the wall color, I knew I had to change it, and fast. I had been going back and forth about using the Grizzle gray that I used in my laundry closet on an accent wall, and just could not commit. After being in a cave for five years, I figured I would paint all of the other walls white to brighten things up. However, I wasn’t too sure even about the white. I took a plunge and went with the only options I gave myself, a Grizzle gray accent wall, and white everywhere else. The starkness took some time to adjust to, but I knew it was only paint. And with the way I change things around my house, the paint wasn’t something I had to keep forever.

I had been wanting a larger rug and found myself being stuck again. Do I go with solid gray or do I get some kind of a pattern? I decided on a pattern and figured this is where I could be adventurous. I searched for gray, pink, and white rugs, and when my rug popped up, I knew it was the one. Not at all what I envisioned, not in my budget, not even a true pink, but it was my rug.

I got my new bedding right before Christmas when I first decided to do a refresh. That was the easiest decision, as I knew I wanted all white and something similar to what I had before, if not the exact same thing. Unfortunately, my old bedding was sold out, but I was quickly able to find its replacement, and love that it’s glam yet ruff around the edges just like me,  with its faux linen look. I added some throw pillows to add color and tie into the rug, and they were a perfect match.

Another addition that I’ve known I wanted for a few years was a bench. I had been looking for benches since I added my headboard, and l was never able to find what I was looking for in the price point I wanted. I was able to snag this bench just at the right time, and it looks like a set to the headboard.

It wouldn’t be a Tish space without at least one DIY. And I was able to add in two. The first one was planned and that is the monogram I placed right above the bed. I used to have wall-to-wall curtains behind my bed to help brighten up the room and soften it up a bit from its cave look. I knew I wanted to take down the curtains and add an art feature. When I saw this idea of the monogram, I just loved it. After checking the price, I was not about to spend $100 plus on a monogram when I knew I could make it myself for less than a dollar. And so, I got some foam board, an Exacto knife, and some paint and created my own DIY monogram sign. I used some leftover tulle as the ribbon.

The other DIY project was actually a last-minute decision. I wanted to put some greenery in the corner between my dresser and bathroom door. I knew it had to be a faux tree since it would not get any light there. But as per usual, a faux tree large enough was more than I wanted to spend. Although my refresh turned into a complete makeover, I kept my refresh budget. With my budget in mind, I thought, what can I make that would be tall enough and still add some greenery? Instantly the thought of a blanket ladder came to mind. It was also a great way to add some warmth to the stark gray and white room.  I ordered two 1x2x8s, Early American stain, and created my own DIY blanket ladder. I was getting ready to re-do my living room and had ordered a two-pack of hanging baskets with faux ivy, so there was my greenery. I already ordered a new blanket for the bed, and just decided to put it on the ladder instead and keep the blanket I already had on the bed, on the bed.

On my accent wall, I added picture ledges I bought from Ikea around the same time I got the headboard. I picked up some picture frames from Dollar Tree and spray-painted time white and brushed nickel. I found some cute prints on Etsy that I printed and added to the frames. I added some extra topiary plants that came with a four-pack intended for my living room re-do to add that pop of greenery and warmth to the shelves. I just love the way it turned out.

I am still adjusting to the white walls, but I am loving my girly glam bedroom.
