Staying Faithful During Hard Times

Have you ever felt like you were led by God to do something, and as soon as you begin the journey to follow God’s will, all of the signs try to lead you to change your course? Has God told you his promise for you, but that promise involves someone else and they’re not on board, causing you to question that promise? Or are you just constantly going through storm after storm, and can’t see the rainbow at the end or even in between?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be trying to stay faithful and can’t see a way.

So in my last blog I ended it with one of my fave scriptures; Proverbs 3:5-6. Well, I’m going to start this blog where I left off. “Trust in the Lord, with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will direct your path.”

I know it’s easier to read a scripture than to live one. I have been saying, singing, and writing this scripture for years and still struggle.  Especially the times when I can answer yes to all three of those questions. So I have gathered some inspirational motivation to help you (us) stay faithful while going through hard times.

Think about Joseph and his agonizing hard time in prison and even his brothers’ betrayal before that.  Joseph knew that from his family’s experiences with God’s promises, the one thing God seemed to honor and bless more than anything else, was faith. Abraham believed God’s word. Isaac believed God’s word. Rebekah believed God’s word. Jacob believed God’s word. They all believed even when it didn’t look like God’s word was going to come true. And all of them ultimately saw God’s faithfulness to his promises, despite circumstances and their own failings. Some of those promises took 25 years to come to fruition. And even Abraham struggled to stay faithful, but in his faith, God’s promise to make him a father of many nations happened.  I know this may not seem so inspirational when you think about the time it took God to fulfill his promises. Remember, everything according to God’s will happens at the right time, God’s time. So even if it seems like that promise will never happen, remember “God is not man, that He should lie, nor the son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19)

It’s the faithfulness to God and his word that sets us on a course where circumstances get worse, not better. It is then that knowing God’s promises and his ways are key. Faith in what God has for us is what should sustain us in those trying times. God’s plans are far better than your hopes, dreams, expectations.  Our current circumstances are not our existences. Though some may seem grand and never ending, they are just a page of our lives, that will have a happy ending if we stay faithful to God’s will.

P.S. Those who have been faithful over a little; God will set you over much.
