What I’m Most Thankful For

What I’m Most Thankful For

This year has been an interesting year for me. And even though it’s not quite over, It has forced me to reevaluate my life and really think about what my life is, who I am (still trying to figure that out) and what my life could be. In a nutshell, I decided to make some big changes to appreciate life more. In doing so, I needed to think about what I am thankful for.

I started this year hoping it would be better than the last. And although certain aspects of it have gotten better, the goals and dreams of last year that followed me into this year will continue to follow me into next year as I have yet to fulfill them. And if you have been tagging along with me all of this time, you know I have been working diligently to fulfill those goals and dreams and have continued to come up with the short end of the stick. Some things truly are beyond your control.

This is why I thought it was important to reflect on all of the things I am thankful for in life. It is so easy to fall into a slump when things in your life start to head south. Realizing what all you have in life to be thankful for will definitely turn your mood around and make you prioritize your feelings differently.

I’m thankful for having God in my life. After going through my rough patches last year, my faith was a bit shakey. Trying to understand what God wants in your life and from your life is challenging when it doesn’t match up with your plans or timing for your life. I was blessed to have known God before this rough time and therefore, I already knew what He was capable of. It was also helpful to know through Him, what I was capable of and who I am. Knowing that I am a child of God was reassuring and helped me pick up my faith game. After all, it wasn’t God’s faith that was shakey, He was always there with me as I went through my trials and tribulations. I am thankful that He is always with me and my true best friend no matter what!

I am thankful for my business. I absolutely love everything about my business other than the fact that it is not my sole career. At times, including this morning, it is a struggle seeing all of the successful bloggers, Instagram influencers and YouTubers who started after me, or even before me, being able to do this as a career while I’m still trying to figure it out. That is why I am thankful that I love what I do. It helps me to keep pushing on and to keep my eyes on the prize. Nothing for me in life has ever come to me easily, so why would I expect something I love so much to?  Building this business has been therapy for me, and I love that I am able to help so many people out there that use my content for support or advice. I am thankful for my readers, my followers, and my viewers who have supported me.

I am thankful for my creative talents. I have been a creative person since birth. I thought visual art would be my channel, but I love that I have branched out to dancing, writing, interior design, photography, and videography. Since I am not one who enjoys verbal communication, I love being able to express myself in so many other ways. I am thankful that God has blessed me with these talents and that I have been able to recognize them to use them for the benefit of others.

I’m thankful for life.  Having the opportunity to wake up each day and try to make it better than the last, or even each hour, is truly a blessing. I try to remind myself of this each day, that I should not just be thankful for being alive, but that I have so much to live for, including making each moment better than the last. Now, of course, I don’t always achieve this goal, but it is a blessing to just be able to.

Going back to my goals for this year, one was to live my best life. I know there are several people who just don’t agree with the living your best life concept. And that is a shame in its self. For me, it goes back to appreciating the life that God has giving you and taking full advantage of it. For me, it means to live your life and not allow your life to live you. I’m all about enjoying your life, the good, the bad, and the ugly, learning from each moment, and making the best of it.

When you look at the grand scheme of things, we tend to allow ourselves to get upset over something that took up a few minutes of our lives, and dwell on its negativity for hours, days, months, or even years. If it only took a spec of your time, why should you give up more than a spec of happiness for it?

I am thankful for my drive. I love that I continue to “try” when things are though. Even when I don’t want to keep going, I love that my drive pushes me to not quit. Although at times I question my sanity, lol, I am thankful that I stuck it out because it teaches me just how strong I truly am. It reassures me that if I could make it through that, I can make it through just about anything.

My focus of thanks had to be internal in order for me to be happy with my life. I needed to look at the things I did or what I have on a personal level to appreciate my life. Yes, family and friends are important, but they shouldn’t be your driving force for being happy in yourself or in your life. If that’s the case, what happens when that person is no longer here?

When going through rough times, even if someone else is involved, you are really going through that time humanly by yourself. What I mean is, no two people will respond the exact same way to a similar situation.

Discovering what you do that brings you joy is the key to enjoying your life even when all things are not joyful.

P.S. I’m thankful for so many things, but mostly God. Without Him, I’d have nothing else to be thankful for. – unknown
