How God Used 2020 To Get Our Attention

h

In my last post, I shared some of the life lessons 2020 taught me. The biggest lesson from 2020, that I’m still learning, is how God used a pandemic (if not all of 2020) to get our attention.

Have you heard of the saying, “God works in mysterious ways?” Although I am not sure where that saying comes from, there is evidence of the mysterious and miraculous ways of God, including the lessons He sends us to gain our attention, all throughout The Bible.

h

2020 started off with brush fires in Australia, then we learned of a locust outbreak in East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian subcontinent. Let’s not forget to mention the Coronavirus pandemic that was spreading beyond control. In all of these mysterious happenings, God was ever present.

h

2 Chronicles 7:13-15 says  “Whenever I hold back the rain or send locusts to eat up the crops or send an epidemic on my people,  if they pray to me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven, forgive their sins, and make their land prosperous again.  I will watch over this Temple and be ready to hear all the prayers that are offered here.”

When this Scripture first came to me in the Spring of 2020, all I could think was, well it is written. God is telling us what He wants from us and we’ve had the answer all of this time.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope – Romans 15:4

h

How does God want our attention?
  1. We need to pray to God
  2. We must repent and allow the Holy Spirit to change us
  3. Accept God’s blessings

Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. 21 See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer. – Isaiah 26:20-21

h

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity – Jeremiah 29: 11-14

h

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
